Understanding the Role of a Forensic Nurse Examiner
When a survivor of sexual assault seeks medical care, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) plays a critical role. These specially trained nurses provide trauma-informed forensic medical examinations, collect evidence, document injuries, and offer compassionate support during one of the most difficult moments in a survivor's life.
At FNSWT, our SANEs are certified by the Texas Office of the Attorney General and maintain board certification as Advanced Forensic Nurses. They have collectively served more than 700 survivors across Lubbock and surrounding counties.

24/7 Crisis Response: How Our Hotline Works
Sexual assault can happen at any time, which is why FNSWT maintains a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year on-call roster of certified forensic nurses. Through our partnership with Voice of Hope, survivors in the Lubbock area can access SANE services around the clock.
When a call comes in, our dispatch system activates the nearest available forensic nurse who responds to the designated healthcare facility to perform the examination. This seamless coordination ensures survivors never have to wait for the care they deserve.

Strengthening Community Partnerships in West Texas
Forensic nursing is a team effort. FNSWT works closely with Voice of Hope, UMC Health System, local law enforcement agencies, and district attorney offices to create a coordinated response for sexual assault survivors across West Texas.
Our rural outreach efforts extend services to surrounding communities that may otherwise lack access to certified forensic nurse examiners, ensuring geographic barriers do not prevent survivors from receiving expert care.

Expanding Forensic Nursing Access to Rural West Texas
